A login screen looks simple, yet it hides validation, security and usability defects that reach production every week. This challenge gives you a short requirement and the observed behaviour, and asks you to separate real defects from expected behaviour.

Skills practised: Requirement reading, Defect identification, Severity judgement

Worked example

Requirement: the password field masks input. Observed: characters appear in plain text after pasting. That is a defect even though typing works, because pasting is a normal way to enter a password.

Question 1

Requirement: email is required, password needs 8+ characters, five failed attempts lock the account for 15 minutes. Which observations are defects?
